Hyundai, Kia Recall Over 300,000 Cars in New York, New Jersey, and Elsewhere
Automobile manufacturer Hyundai Corporation and its subsidiary Kia Motors recently recalled approximately 325,000 motor vehicles in North America. According to documents filed with the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 240,000 cars were recalled in 20 so-called "salt belt" states including New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut where corrosion is likely to occur as a result of winter weather conditions. The recall was issued for the Hyundai Sonata and Azera models over possible failing axle shafts and corroded rear vehicle suspensions. The manufacturing defect allegedly places drivers at risk of injury or death due to a potential loss of automobile control. According to Hyundai, no injuries have been reported as a result of the apparent automobile defects.
Both Kia and Hyundai have issued a number of recalls this year. Another recent problem reportedly affects about 30,000 Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorrento crossover cars. NHTSA data claims the vehicles are equipped with a faulty axle that may cause them to roll away while parked. Last month, more than 5,000 Hyundai Azera autos were also recalled over faulty sensors related to the deployment of passenger airbags. In April, the companies issued a recall for a combined total of nearly two million motor vehicles related to potential electrical system failures.
In New York and across the country, traffic crashes generally occur without warning. Common causes of accidents include weather, speeding, motorist negligence, driver impairment, and more. Sadly, collisions can also result from defective roadways or faulty motor vehicles. Consumers across the nation are hurt or killed by dangerously manufactured products such as automobiles each and every year. If you were injured by an unsafe product, you may be entitled to receive financial compensation for your medical expenses, lost wages and benefits, pain, suffering, any resulting disability, and a variety of other damages. If you were hurt by a dangerous or defective car or other product, you are advised to speak with an experienced personal injury lawyer as soon as you are able.
