23-Year-Old Pedestrian Suffers Horrific Injury in Manhattan Cab Accident

NYC morguefile username kabruckner.jpgA 23-year-old British tourist was severely hurt in a horrific Manhattan pedestrian accident with a cab. According to police, the woman was standing on a sidewalk that runs along Sixth Avenue when a taxi driver allegedly lost control and drove onto the walkway near West 49th Street. The cab purportedly mowed down both the pedestrian and a bicycle rider in the late morning crash. The pedestrian was reportedly taken to Bellevue Hospital with a severed leg. The bicyclist apparently sustained only minor injuries in the collision.

The exact cause of the injury accident is currently under investigation by local authorities. According to an accident witness, the 24-year-old cab driver was speeding immediately prior to leaving the roadway. Police stated the cab driver was not authorized to be operating the vehicle at the time of the collision. Both the driver and the cab's owner, NYC Taxi Group Inc., were reportedly issued a summons to appear in court. Quick thinking onlookers, including television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz, were credited with saving the woman's life.
